Reflective Practitioner
This teaching portfolio is a living document that I will continuously update as I experience new opportunities, respond to new ideas and reflect on intriguing pedagogy throughout my career. My continuous growth as an educator is paramount and this portfolio provides a visual of this process.
In the beginning of my career, I used to rely solely on lectures, PowerPoint, and the text book. I didn't feel comfortable deviating from these resources. Today, the integration of high leverage strategies and digital resources ensures each student receives a personalized experience. I have learned to accept that I am always improving my craft and the evolution of my practice will be a constant. Accepting this reality has allowed me to redefine my role as a teacher to a coach, mentor and facilitator. I specialize in personalized learning and have experienced the most sustained growth with my students using its methodologies. My students and I collaborate to create a student-centered classroom that elevates student voice, choice and ownership. |
When I first established this portfolio in 2014, I had many questions about effective teaching with technology and incorporating more age appropriate real-life applications. In the years since my classroom has evolved into a paperless classroom. However, I will still use hands-on manipulatives over digital manipulatives when possible. In 2015, I began using Canvas Learning Management System and shifted towards project-based and mastery learning.
I want to improve my role as a coach to my students. Some students struggle with choice and redoing assignments because it is overwhelming to them. I believe learning better how to support students with time and project management will improve how students welcome the opportunity to analyze errors, make connections and master content.
